The Freedom Challenge (previously known as Freedom Climb) is a ministry of Operation Mobilization (omafrica.org), an international missions organisation.

In Africa, it is the vision of the Freedom Challenge to extend God’s Kingdom in a holistic way, impacting women and children for eternity whilst equipping them with skills and education to fulfil God’s purpose in their generation. The reality is that there are many vulnerable women and children living in Africa and we are called to compassionate action to see the captives set free.

  • It is recorded that Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest incidence of child labour in the world with one in four children (ages 7-17) working.
  • The bottom 12 countries in the latest UN Human Development index, which measure overall health, education and income, are all in Africa.
  • Sub-Saharan Africa is the epicenter of the AIDS pandemic, with at least one in every 20 adults infected by HIV. 58% of all HIV-positive adults are women and teenage girls are as much as eight times more likely to contract the virus than boys.

The Kilimanjaro Freedom Challenge is an opportunity for men and women in all stages, ages and places, to stand up and be a voice for women and children around the world who are enslaved, oppressed, and exploited today.

Our next challenge will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, from the 13th to 21st of February 2016. We see this physical challenge as a way to identify with those caught in modern-day slavery and exploitation, as they face an impossibly steep climb to freedom daily.

Every participant is required to raise awareness and funds. They inform those around them about modern-day injustices, and the funds they raise support more than 20 Freedom Challenge projects in Africa. We work with these projects because of their investment in the lives of vulnerable women and children, providing help and hope for a brighter future.
